THE DELMA INSTITUTE - SENIOR EDITOR

The Delma Institute is a think tank focusing on the political, economic, security, and social issues affecting the Middle East and North Africa. I edit papers for private and public consumption that range from how regional authorities should tackle violent extremism, to monthly political risk and technology reports. A large part of my role is to manage and oversee online and social media content.
FREELANCE JOURNALIST

Aside from my daily role as an editor at The Delma Institute, I am also a local, regional, and international freelance journalist. I am a regular contributor to The New York Times and Mabuhay, the inflight magazine of Philippine Airlines, and have written for Glamour (UK).

I managed a team of more than two dozen reporters and editors and was responsible for assigning stories, editing, and proofing content. I managed the desk in the editor’s absence, which included selecting what ran in the local news section. An essential part of my role was working with the online team to ensure The National homepage was regularly updated with breaking news and exclusive content. I was also a regular contributor to The Review, the paper’s arts, culture, and politics section.

I managed a team of reporters and editors and my responsibilities included assigning stories, editing, proofing content, and reporting breaking news. The role also had a substantial online dimension, from writing web-friendly headlines to publishing stories on The National’s homepage.

After joining the paper as a features writer I was promoted to the local news desk the following year, where I assumed the role of senior health reporter. In this role I managed the health desk, mentoring the junior health reporters and securing exclusives to ensure The National had the premier health news coverage in the country.
SCOTTISH CULTURAL ENTERPRISE - PROGRAMME CO-ORDINATOR, NEW DEAL FOR MUSICIANS
APRIL 2009 - MAY 2010
New Deal for Musicians was a government-funded programme that supported unemployed musicians by offering them advice on the music industry. The aim of NDfM was to guide participants into employment or higher education.
